12 Dates Of Christmas Ideas!

December 8, 2014

This time of year is magical in itself, and I'm a firm believer in taking advantage of that. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I think it's super important to take some time to enjoy your loved ones, whether it be you and your spouse or you and your family. And last year husband and I did just that with our 12 Dates of Christmas. So I wanted to share our ideas with you and inspire you to find the time to date your people in a festive and merry way!

12 Dates of Christmas Ideas for you:

  1. Bundle up, make hot chocolate, and find your town's Christmas parade.
  2. Head to a restaurant you rarely go to, or have never been to, and grab dinner. Afterward walk around window shopping, admiring all of the Christmas spirit in the shop windows! This was extra fun for us because we chose a restaurant downtown and that gave us plenty of shop windows to admire. Plus, our downtown area was festive with lights and garland.
  3. We are fortunate to have an Inn that decorates with tens of trees for Christmas. We visited last holiday season and walked their hall, taking in all of the differently decorated trees. All those lights were magical!
  4. We rarely eat breakfast together on the weekdays. So we decided to wake up extra early one day last year and eat breakfast out before heading into work. Everything was still that morning, the crowds didn't exist, and it was just us enjoying breakfast together.
  5. Bake together. Invite friends and family over and whip up Christmas goodies. Last year, we had my cousin and sister over to make a few holiday treats, and we had the best time. You just can't go wrong with this date!
  6. Is there somewhere you've always wanted to go and haven't yet? Transform your living room into that desired location and enjoy an evening together. Adding some special baked goods doesn't hurt either ;)
  7. Find a Christmas festival or event to attend. Last year, we hopped a county over and joined friends for a special Christmas evening downtown and a museum tour. This was all free!
  8. Dine out somewhere quiet. We live in a college town and when holiday break arrives, the place clears out. So we took the opportunity to enjoy an otherwise extremely crowded and busy restaurant. We went for sushi on this date, and had the restaurant almost entirely to ourselves, with the exception of one other family.
  9. Midday coffee for no other reason than to enjoy the java and one another. If you have the chance to do this, I so recommend it. It's such a nice way to break up your day and do something you might typically not.
  10. Catch a Christmas movie or play. There are a few places in our town that offer a free movie the weekend before Christmas. And if you're not up for going out, then make your family room into the theater. Make popcorn and special drinks and curl up under some blankets for movie time.
  11. Bundle up for a Cocoa Jammie Christmas! Grab your family or friends, put you pajamas on, stop by Starbucks for a drink and sweet treat, load back up in the car, and drive around looking at Christmas lights!
  12. Find a drive-through live nativity to enjoy. We're looking forward to our first one this year!

  • Other date ideas:
    • volunteer somewhere together
    • ornament decorating/making
    • visit Santa
    • go ice skating
    • take a carriage ride

These dates are great for doing the things you rarely get to do together. It was so nice to set aside special date time last year, and we're trying to do that this year. It's a nice way to catch up with each other and keep that spark going in marriage. Our 12 Dates of Christmas are slowly turning into holiday traditions that we look forward to each year!

I'd love to hear any date ideas you have, and what it is you do this time of year to make it so very special!
